goodnight everybody!

i know it's dickish and improper to judge things before you've seen them, but i was so right.
this movie couldn't have been more cliche and hackneyed had it tried.
and it pissed me off more than it should because of shit like this.
are you fucking kidding me? they seriously think the guy that directed true lies is going to change film forever? (i mean, don't get me wrong i love true lies, but great film it ain't)
i mean granted, that article is more about how he created the 3D camera and got theaters to install projectors and all that fun stuff. but 3D movies aren't all that great, it's not immersion, much like the old green and red movies, it's just a gimmick. i have yet to see anything worth the boost in ticket cost.
i also have to say, in creating a world that rivals star wars, you have failed good sir. i think the appeal of star wars, is that just watching the movies so little is explained, here everything is spewed at you by scientists, vlogs, and narration. it's not interesting, and a lot of the creatures don't make sense, especially the navi.
okay so, every creature has these fiber optic tentacles, they use it communicate with mother earth, or mother pandora, whatever. this is all fine an well until it comes to the navi, the navi have these fiber optics, in their fucking braids.
were they afraid of making the cat people too alien with tentacles coming from their head? because honestly that would make more sense, instead of the stupid human like hair with the magic ponytail. it's just stupid. let it be written GIANT CATS SHOULD NOT HAVE HUMAN HAIR.
and then there is the naming, ooh the planet is called pandora, really? wouldn't pangaea make more sense? was it to outline the hope of the planet the marine would inspire in the kittehs? pretty prophetic scientists there. and then they give us a chunk of pyrite and call it unobtanium.
jesus christ cameron.

the story was bad, there were no characters, only caricatures, the bad ass colonel was the was the worst of them all, everyone i went with was just laughing at all the ridiculous shit he did, he was like a saturday morning cartoon villain.
and i'm really supposed to believe the dude from suburbia as an executive?
and the native american/african thing going on with the navi was just painful.

this blog summed it up well.

yeah sure, you can say that new stories don't exist. or that the story doesn't matter just how it's told (which is true) but this movie isn't done in an interesting way, it's all very basic, very by the book, and the world wasn't that impressive, i mean hell, that final fantasy movie was more interesting than this. and since it was all CGI, not as jarring.

it was somewhat entertaining to be fair, mindless entertainment to the nth degree. but the visuals honestly weren't all that great, most of the animals looked like they were made out of poison dart frogs. just cartoony. i will admit the floating mountains were pretty cool however.
